We were sad to say goodbye to our friend Alan Tavener last Tuesday.
Alan, together with his wife, Kim has been a keen bowler since joining Wimborne Bowls Club in 1992. In 1998, Alan and Kim moved to Bournemouth and became members of Moordown Bowls Club. Alan went on to join the committee, and only a week before his death was elected club president. Alan also served on the executive committee of the Bournemouth and District Bowling Association from 2007 to 2011. Alan was also a stalwart of the Bournemouth Open Tournament Committee, becoming the Chairman in 2011.
Bowlaway has worked closely with Alan over the years to make the Bournemouth Open Bowls Tournament a success, and we will miss his contribution.
This year sees the 100th anniversary of the tournament, and there is a record prize of £10,000.00.
The tournament committee and sponsor Bowlaway will ensure that Alan’s memory is honoured by making this centenary tournament a great success.
